How I Use Maths In My Job:
As an actuary you use lots of your mathematical knowledge, from percentages and ratios to statistics and probability, to plain adding up!!
At my stage of my career I don’t see Mathematics as much as I used to but I still love to get out my calculator and sense check the work others have done.
-
My Work
I work in a non-traditional actuarial role for the NTMA. I use the actuarial knowledge I built up in the past to help Trustees manage the Company’s pension scheme.
-
My Typical Day
I get up early and cycle into work at around 7am. The first thing I do, after breakfast, I’d check check my emails and send a few to people. I then have meetings with the people I work with, complete actions coming out of them. I usually have a quick lunch as I like to focus at work. The afternoon is often about finishing off my to do list for the day and making sure I have a plan for the next day.
