It probably depends on what you do after school, and also which school did you go to.
For me, there was not much difference at the beginning, and some new stuff later, but I attended a maths-specialised school and then studied electrical engineering.

If you study maths, I guess there will be more new things.

If you do something unrelated to maths, then it’s probably even less maths around than in school (including the “life” maths which is always there one way or another 🙂 .

Maybe a most notable difference is that after school, there will be no one to formulate a “Problem” or an “Exercise” for you! Mathematical problems arise when trying to answer a scientific question using selected mathematical concepts and methods.

It can be – sometimes you’re trying to answer a question no one has answered before, so you can’t correct your work or see if you’ve got the right answer. But you’re always using the things you learned in school to do this – e.g. problem solving or using different methods to see if you get the same answer each time.

It depends on the course that you do and lots of what we do builds on the maths that you learn at school. In the courses we teach we try to focus on developing skills to turn questions into something we can solve with maths or statistics, and show maths and statistics are used to solve problems in the real world.
