As an actuary, you can work for many different companies! I have worked in one particular area of insurance – covering large events, such as hurricane damage and life insurance for many hundreds of thousands of people when events like pandemics occur – which is known as reinsurance, for 7 years now. My clients are insurance companies. Other actuaries might work on aircraft leasing, motor insurance, health insurance, banking, education, research on topics like how new disease treatments will impact on our lives, organisations that support businesses by offering services related to our skills and many other places too! The skills of an actuary are helpful in lots of different places, as our main role is to help manage risks and uncertainty looking into with the future.
