How I Use Maths In My Job:
I use statistics and probability every day. Lots of the methods that I use in statistics also need algebra, geometry and measurement. Some examples of those I work with include: Johnson & Johnson helping them to understand more about how contact lenses are made, Sanofi to understand properties of their medicines better, and sports scientists to understand why people who run get injured or not.
-
My Work
I work with lots of scientists and companies, helping them to use their data to understand more about particular products, medicines or human behaviour.
-
My Typical Day
I get up and get everyone (me, kids, cats) ready for the day. I drop my kids to school and then am off to work. I spend the day teaching, preparing lectures, supervising students and other researchers helping them to do their work, or meeting with other scientists and companies to talk about our work. I also have to write lots of reports and papers and read other people's work.
